2026 School Nursing is my Superpower Nominee:

All of my nurses Lisa walters, gail bessecker, jackie leggett, KIm Block, Debra Ashman, Katie Greenberg, Konrad Modscheidler, Elizabeth Osswald, Troy City Schools, Ohio

My nine nurse with Troy City Schools don’t wear capes, but they consistently demonstrate abilities that feel nothing short of superhuman in a school setting. Each nurse has a unique “superpower” that directly impacts student well-being and success: Rapid Response Reflexes – They assess injuries and illnesses within seconds, making critical decisions that keep students safe and parents reassured. Emotional Radar – Beyond physical health, they sense anxiety, stress, and unspoken struggles, offering comfort that often changes the course of a student’s day. Calm-in-Chaos Control – Whether it’s a busy clinic, multiple students at once, or an unexpected emergency, they create order and calm without hesitation. Prevention Vision – They don’t just treat problems; they anticipate and prevent them through education, vigilance, and proactive care. Endless Compassion Engine – Every student is treated with patience, dignity, and kindness, no matter how many times they walk through the door. Communication Telepathy – They bridge gaps between students, parents, teachers, and administrators with clarity and empathy. Adaptability Shape-Shifting – From first aid provider to counselor to educator, they seamlessly shift roles based on what each moment requires. Resilience Shield – They absorb stress and still show up steady, dependable, and focused every single day. Community Impact Amplifier – Their influence extends beyond the clinic, strengthening the entire school environment. Together, these nurses form a team whose combined impact is greater than the sum of their parts. Their “superpowers” aren’t fictional—they’re demonstrated daily through skill, compassion, and unwavering commitment to student health. That’s what makes them more than deserving of recognition as Super Nurses during Nurses Week.
