If school nurses had capes, Tammy Casalandra’s would be flying behind her daily—and for good reason. Although new to her current position, Tammy brings a wealth of prior nursing experience that is immediately evident in everything she does. She has seamlessly stepped into her role with confidence, compassion, and an energy that has made a lasting impact on both students and staff. Tammy’s “superpower” lies in her ability to connect. Whether she’s working with a kindergartener who needs reassurance or a sixth grader navigating more complex concerns, she meets every student exactly where they are. Her sense of humor and warm personality make her approachable, helping students feel safe, understood, and cared for. Beyond her relationships with students, Tammy is an invaluable support to staff. She is exceptionally organized and proactive, consistently keeping staff informed of important health updates and student needs. Her communication ensures that everyone is equipped to provide a safe and supportive learning environment. One of Tammy’s standout contributions has been her initiative in developing and delivering a comprehensive food allergy training program. She created and presented an engaging PowerPoint for both staff and students, raising awareness about food allergies and the serious risks of anaphylaxis. Her efforts have significantly strengthened the school’s preparedness and safety protocols. Most importantly, Tammy has cultivated a school environment where health, safety, and kindness are prioritized. She is deeply respected by her colleagues and genuinely loved by her students—a true testament to her impact. Tammy Casalandra doesn’t just fulfill the role of a school nurse—she elevates it.
