Cynthia M. Bierig

2026 School Nursing is my Superpower Nominee:

Cynthia M. Bierig, Enid Public Schools, Oklahoma

The most profound testament to Cynthia’s impact is the simple fact that at least two of our students are alive today because of her. In these instances, Cynthia’s clinical expertise was matched only by her unwavering persistence. When others might have seen routine symptoms, she recognized life-threatening "red flags." Her refusal to back down and her fierce advocacy for these children during medical ordeals ensured they received the emergency intervention they desperately needed. Stepping Up Through Adversity Our school has navigated a grueling season of staffing shortages and administrative changes. During these turbulent times, Cynthia didn't just "fill in"—she led. She has consistently shouldered extra responsibilities without complaint, ensuring that student care never skipped a beat despite the gaps in our roster. Her presence provides a sense of stability that is felt by every teacher, parent, and child in the building. Innovation and Continuous Growth While Cynthia is a seasoned professional, she possesses the mindset of a lifelong learner. She has been remarkably proactive in adopting and mastering new technologies to streamline our health data. Her innovative approach to digital record-keeping hasn't just saved time; it has made our health office more accurate, transparent, and efficient, allowing her to spend less time on paperwork and more time on patient care. The Ultimate Team Player Despite the high-pressure nature of her role and the heavy workload she carries, Cynthia remains a joy to work with. She approaches every interaction with a collaborative spirit and a touch of grace. She is: Reliable: The person everyone turns to when a situation turns critical. Empathetic: A calm voice for frightened children and worried parents. Forward-Thinking: Always looking for ways to improve our school's wellness protocols. Closing Thought: Nurse Cynthia is more than a school nurse; she is a guardian of our community’s well-being. Her advocacy has saved lives, her hard work has sustained our operations, and her heart has made our school a safer, better place. We cannot think of anyone more deserving of this honor.
