Her school campus scholars, staff and all district personal get the benefit of this experienced nursing professional. It begins with her face. Her genuine smile beams forth, faster than the speed of light, as you walk into the clinic or see her in the hallway. It relaxes you and invites you into a conversation to discuss a complaint or a concern. Then she has a listening ear. Super hearing! She can hear what you say and more importantly, what you do not say. Next, Nurse Douglas connects with each person. Everyone is important and gets face-to-face eye contact. The young scholars like the fact that in her clinic, everyone is seen and everyone is heard. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that every child also leaves with a sticker. Nurse Douglas then uses her extensive knowledge to consistently assess the situation to determine the appropriate level of compassionate care required. Then she quickly and calmly administers it with a smile and a sticker.
